Lot Essay

For a 17th Century Swiss beaker with somewhat similar overlapping scalework see Gruber, A., Weltliches Silber, Zürich, 1977, fig. 10. The diamond point engraving on the foot rim and the border is a feature of silver made in Zürich, and Rapperswil is geographically close to that city. For a fuller discussion of Rapperswil silver see Rittmeyer, D.F. Rapperswiler Goldschmiedekunst Mitteilungen der Antiquarischen Gesellschaft in Zürich, 34, 1949, part 3.
