Contemporary gilt-tooled calf, covers with inlaid panel of tree calf enclosed by an inlaid border of palmettes, outer border of gilt fillets and Greek key pattern, black morocco lettering-piece and repeated cornucopia tool on spine, gilt edges WITH FORE-EDGE PAINTING, thought to be a view from or near Olney (lower corners rubbed and bumped, rubbing slightly affecting gilt border, spine evenly faded). Cowper moved to Olney, a small market town in Buckinghamshire, in 1767, finding it 'abounding with Palm Trees and Wells of Living Water' (Letters 1.179).
