Lot Essay

The present drawing is based on the artist's The Coronation of the Virgin in the Chapelle de la Vierge in Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois, Paris, which was commissioned around 1845. A preparatory sketch for the composition is in the Musée Rolin, Autun.
