Lot Essay

The sitter succeeded his father, Sir Walter Bagot, 5th Bt., on the latter's death in 1768, and was created 1st Baron Bagot in 1780. He was Member of Parliament for Staffordshire (1754-1780). For the portrait by Reynolds of the sitter's wife, see the previous lot.
