Jean de Bignon was the King's Librarian. He was an honorary member of the Academie des Sciences, elected at 29 years of age, as well as a member of the Academie des Inscriptions. In 1693 he was elected to the Academie Francaise but resigned in 1699 after the Academie refused to allow the election of honorary members.
