WHITE MUSCAT FROM MASSANDRA
White Muscat--Vintage 1939
Crimea, Massandra
Levels: one bottom neck, two top shoulder; signs of old seepage, cracked and partially missing wax capsules. In Sotheby's labelled bags, unlabelled bottles
"The bronze-hued 1939 Massandra White Muscat showed surprisingly little development on the nose, given its age. Explosively floral, grapey aromas typical of the Muscat grape were accented by notes of honey and caramel. On the palate, the wine was sweet and rich, with a hint of brown sugar and a fleeting, ethereal finish. A delicious bit of vinous history." CC, October 2010, a bottle from this collection.
