Lot Essay

This portrait of Eliza Ann Farrar was one of five of the Farrar family of Rindge, New Hampshire in the collection of Nina Fletcher Little and Bertram K. Little. These portraits include her brother, Abel Fisk Farrar, her parents, Achsah Fisk Farrar and Jacob Farrar, as well as an aunt. Other members of the Farrar family painted by Powers include: Allethenia Fisk Farrar, the youngest daughter of Achsah Fisk Farrar and Jacob Farrar, as well as Allethenia Fisk, sister of Achsah Fisk Farrar. Eliza Ann Farrar and Abel Fisk Farrar were offered at Sotheby's on January 29, 1994 as lots 101 and 102. Their parents, Achsah Fisk Farrar and Jacob Farrar were offered at Sotheby's on October 22, 1994 as lots 819 and 820.
