Lot Essay

The present lot is after one of fourteen groups of figures known as 'Marmousets' for the Allée d'Eau, Versailles. Designed by Le Brun, they were originally cast in lead and gilded in 1669-70 by Louis Lerambert, Pierre Legros the Elder, and Etienne Le Hongre.
