Vase-shaped on spreading domed foot chased with a band of flowers, the bowl chased with an eleborate rococo cartouche containing the engraved inscription: "Verebret von Einen loblichen Handwerckder Loh und Sehmisch Gerber Zu St Annaberg den 17 Febr 1776", beneath chased leather worker's tools, marked on base

Lot Essay

The inscription indicates that this was a gift to a promising leather worker, presumably from the leatherworker's guild of St Annaberg. St Annaberg is close to Dresden and Prague and the nearest silversmithing centre would appear to have been Chemnitz.
