A Paris Salon - The Property of a Lady (lots 193-212) The eighteenth century was a period of great inventiveness and achievement in the decorative arts. As cabinet making techniques in France became more advanced, the quality of gilt bronze mounts and general construction improved allowing greater freedom in design and opening new creative possibilities. Tulipwoods and exotic timbers were used to great effect. These gilded, veneered and delicately painted pieces still evoke the elegance and sophistication of the 18th century salon today.
