The orange-buff clay enriched overall in dark-brown beneath a thick lead glaze, the ogee bowl applied with seven strap handles, with a central spout and whistle held by a bracket and loop device, the tapering rim incised with the date *1*7*4* and the initials *IB*M* , the body and handles impressed with additional asterisk-form flower-heads and cross ornament

Lot Essay

Although a digit has been omitted on the incised date '174' found on the present pot, based on comparative evidence of form, decoration and technique found on other dated examples, the date should read 1704.
