Lot Essay

See S. Spero and J. Sandon, Worcester Porcelain 1751-1790, The Zorensky Collection, 1996, p. 120, no. 88 for another example. The model is one of the few based on a Meissen original rather than on a silver prototype. The model was conceived as a pair with the handle looped to one side or the other and would seem to correspond to the 'Leaf Sauceboats Enamelled 1st 2nd' as listed on the factory's price list at 3 shillings and 3 shillings sixpence for the two sizes. See also Property from the Collection of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gordon T. Southam, Vancouver, Canada; Christie's, New York, 7 April 2009, lot 209 for a pair of the same model.
