The first issue of this wall map was made by the cartographers Jan Janszoon Dou and Steven van Broeckhuysen between 1642-1646 and originally engraved by Cornelis Danckert in 1647. In 1687 the map has been revised and re-issued by cartographers Johannes Dou jr. and Zeger Wolfsen, Romeyn de Hooghe added an elaborate border with a new series of coat of arms of the members of the polder-board of 1687. The sheets with these new arms replaced the sheets with the title of 1647, but maintaing the sheets with the coat of arms of 1647.
