A bronze figure of Avalokiteshvara
Northeastern India, Pala period, 12th/13th century
Seated in lalitasana on a cushion over a double-lotus throne with beaded rims, the pendant foot supported by a separate lotus pad, wearing a long dhoti incised in a diaper pattern and secured by a heavy belt, presenting a flower bud in his left hand and holding the stem of a lotus in his right, the face with slight smile and the hair piled into a high chignon secured with a circlet tied at the back
