How to sell

A bronze figure of Hevajra and Nairatmya
Northeastern India, Pala period, 11th/12th century
Finely cast with Hevajra embracing Nairatmya as they stride in alidhasana over prone figures on a round openwork lotus base, he with five faces, sixteen arms and four legs, both wearing silver jewelry and holding various implements
5 in. (12.8 cm.) high

The James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection, Chicago, acquired before 1996

Specialist note

The openwork base with evenly spaced loops would likely have been for attachment of separately moving lotus leaves, making it the center of a bronze articulated mandala.
