AN UNUSUAL EMBROIDERED SILK BUDDHIST PANEL
18TH/19TH CENTURY
Finely embroidered with Buddha holding a lotus while standing beneath a canopy in the midst of numerous bodhisattvas, acolytes and attendants, all standing on lotus blossoms, with a cloud-enshrouded pavilion surmounted by a flaming pearl finial in the background, below various auspicious objects floating amidst further mist-enshrouded pavilions, the foreground embroidered with lotus borne on silvery grey tendrils, all in shades of russet red, blue, peach, and silver grey on a dark ivory silk ground, enriched with Peking knot, glass beads and seed pearls
