AN EMBELLISHED ZITAN RECTANGULAR TWO-DOOR TABLE CABINET
18TH CENTURY
The doors decorated in polychrome bone applique with peach and pomegranate trees growing amidst blue rocks and asters, with similar panels on the back, one end panel with a magnolia tree growing amidst rocks and camellia, the other with nandina amidst rocks and narcissus, all applied to a ground painted as sky and earth, with finger citrons flanked by angular scrolls on the fronts of the narrow drawers in the upper and lower sections, and repeated on the backs of these sections, the top of the upper section surrounded by an openwork border of pale green scroll, top, interior of cabinet and interior of drawers in black lacquer
13 3/8 in. (34 cm.) high, 14 1/8 in. (36 cm.) long, 7½ in. (19 cm.) deep with later-added stand

Acquired in Hong Kong in the 1950s, and thence by descent within the family.
