FIRST EDITION OF AN 'EXCELLENT TREATISE, WITH BEAUTIFUL HAND-COLOURED PLATES' (Wood). The book was remaindered to Quartich in the 1900s, and the present work is probably from this early period; the plates have old (but probably slightly-later) colouring. It should be considered as Keulemans' masterpiece, as it contains 'probably, his best work' (Fine Bird Books p.63 note). Fine Bird Books (1990) p.125; Nissen IVB 587; Wood p.468; Zimmer p.439.
