Lot Essay

Sketched on the back of the Norwich Jazz Club programme for June 1956, this drawing by the celebrated jazz singer George Melly shows the influence of Georges Braque and other cubists. Melly worked for a gallery in London after the Second World War and later as a film and art critic. This drawing, therefore, is a rare example of his own artistic output.
