Château Pichon-Longueville, Baron--Vintage 1959
Pauillac, 2ème cru classé
Levels; six top shoulder, two upper shoulder, two upper mid shoulder; four lightly corroded and oxidized capsules, two signs of old seepage, bin soiled and faded labels, one lightly damp stained label, two labels lightly torn at edges
"From a magnum brought directly from the estate, the '59 Pichon-Baron showed a wonderfully complex nose with dry, curranty fruit character that opened up with notes of prune and fig along with an undercurrent of truffle, sous-bois, and a touch of iodine. On the palate the wine was balanced, elegant, and firm, with a fine structure, plenty of power, and very nice length. Lovely." CC, February 2010 at the MW dinner at La Toque in Napa.
