RARE LES SAINT GEORGES
Throughout the 19th Century, several climats of Nuits-St.-Georges were commonly identified as grands crus. Dr. Jules Lavalle in his work Histoire et Statistique de la Vigne & des Grand Vin de la Cte d'Or in 1855 remarks "...le Saint-Georges occupies the first rank for ageability, color, bouquet, finesse...This climat, surrounded by a wall, was planted to vines from the year 100..."

Here, a lucky bidder will obtain a true rarity: seven bottles of Les Saint Georges from famed producer Henri Gouges plucked from the consignor's cellar in their original wooden case, still wrapped in their original straw. Bid with confidence, a bottle from this collection tasted by the Christie's team of specialists was a revelation.
Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges--Vintage 1934
Côte de Nuits, Gouges
Levels: One 3.5cm, three 4.5cm, one 5.0cm, two 8.0cm; two signs of old seepage, one scuffed capsule, one tissue stained label, five torn labels, two tattered labels, one loose label, in original straw wrappers, removed from original wooden case
"A bottle of the '34 Les-St.-Georges from Gouges was an ethereal beauty. The nose retained some lovely black cherry fruit colored by hints of wood smoke, game and saddle leather. On the palate the wine was pure and light and showed great finesse and balance, very much alive and much more than a museum piece. Quite an experience." CC, at the Christie's offices, a bottle from this collection, January 2011
