THE TANKARD BASEL, LATE 17TH CENTURY, MAKER'S MARK MH; THE COVER POSSIBLY HUNGARIAN
Cylindrical, on a circular fluted footrim chased with band of foliage, the body repoussé and chased all over with dense scrolling foliage and flowers, with double-scroll handle, the hinged domed cover with fluted rim engraved with wrigglework, repoussé and chased with band of scrolling foliage and surmounted by a finial formed as a bouquet of flowers, with scrolling bifurcated thumbpiece, marked under base, also later scratched Basel XVII, the footrim with later control marks, the cover apparently unmarked
