Lot Essay

We are grateful to Prof. Jan Kelch for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs (verbal communication, 28 March 2011). Kelch suggests that the present painting is an early work by Peeters. The composition is similar to a signed painting of a shipwreck sold with Christie's, New York, 6 April 2006, lot 259.
