Lot Essay

Both Jacobus and Abraham Storck depicted the present composition several times, most of them dating to circa 1680. A version by Abraham Storck is in the Amsterdam Historical Museum, Amsterdam (inv. no. SK A 21), signed and dated 168(2?). Another version by his brother Jacobus was formerly in the collection of C.J.K. van Aalst, Hoevelaken. The present lot is believed to have been executed in the workshop of Jacobus, where the artist himself likely painted the last details.

We are grateful to Mr. P. Roelofs of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, for his help in cataloguing this lot (verbal communication, 1 March 2011).
