Finely painted with a farmer carrying firewood on a pole in a mountainous and river snow scene, lines of calligraphy with seal mark to reverse side, which may be translated as 'presented as the winning souvenir to the second sports competition in the tenth Guomin school in Long jin xiang'

Lot Essay

He Xuren (1882-1940) was from the second generation of the literati school of porcelain painting and was one of 'The Eight Friends of Zhushan'. He was famous for both his snow scenes and as a miniature calligrapher.
