Of guan form, covered in green enamel with a few areas of deep royal blue, and very small splashes of copper-red in imitation of archaic bronze patination, delicately gilt with a band of linked archaistic taotie between narrow bands of squared spirals, bands of stiff leaves around the foot and ruyi-heads around the rim, the interior and underside in white enamel

Lot Essay

Compare the green enamel gilt-decorated archaistic vessel and cover in the National Palace Museum, which has a Qianlong four-character mark and is of the period (illustrated by Chen Hsia-sheng, Enamel Ware in the Ming and Ch'ing Dynasties, Taipei, 1999, no. 126, p. 242).
