Broadside (14 3/8 x 14 in.), PRINTED ON VELLUM, accomplished in a neat hand. With original large papered seal of the province (the Penn crest), pendant on original green silk ribbon. BOLDLY SIGNED BY JAMES HAMILTON (1710-1783). (A few small holes along central fold, affecting a few letters text, seal cracked but intact). ONE OF ONLY 50 COPIES PRINTED according to the Franklin and Hall Account Books. The transaction documented here between Richard and Thomas Penn and Hans Zimmerman of Lancaster County, gives Zimmerman title to a tract of land in Cocolico township, whose boundaries are carefully enumerated. See Winegrad, The Intellectual World of Benjamin Franklin, p.59). James Hamilton who signs as Lieutenant-Governor, was a distinguished attorney and office-holder, serving as Mayor of Philadelphia, chief justice of the Supreme Court, and delegate to the provincial assembly.
