Marina Abramovic, Statement in Proposal for "Spirit Chair":

Since the project The Lovers walking on The Great Wall of China I made a new body of work under the title "Transitory Objects". "Transitory Objects" can be divided into two parts; Objects for human use and Objects for non-human use (spirit use). In the focus of my work the centre point was always the body. The objects I built are referring to three basic body positions; sitting - standing - lying. In my performances the focus of interest for me was to push my body to the physical and mental limits reaching extremes. In building "Transitory Objects" I am interested in extreme materials: Hair from Korean virgins - Quartz crystals, Tormaline, Amethyst.

As a outdoor piece I would like to construct the "Spirit Chair" 7 meters high with a large crystal stone in the back of the chair which will allow the sunlight to go through and depending of the angle during the day it could work as a prisma projecting rainbow colour lights."
