CHATEAU MONTELENA
Since 1882, there has been a château and winery on the site of Montelena (a contraction of Mount St. Helena). The site of the estate vineyards on the lower slopes of Mount St. Helena to the North of Calistoga was chosen for the stony and well drained soil, perfect for the cultivation of vines. Whilst wine production ceased during Prohibition, like so many California wineries, wine has been made continuously since the repeal.
