A young lady called Suzanne Denis de Cuzieu (1770-1825), in décolleté white dress with red sash tied around waist and ochre scarf, seated in a wooded landscape and decorating a statue of Cupid with a garland of flowers
on ivory
3 11/16 in. (94 mm.) diam., stamped gilt-metal mount on a red velvet panel with metal spandrels within a rectangular stamped gilt-metal frame

Given by the daughter of the present sitter, Aimée Jeanne Athénaïs Denis de Cuzieu, Madame de Saint-Thomas (1796-1871), to her own daughter Madame Andrieu de Vaulx.

Lot Essay

Suzanne 'Christiane' d'Affaux de Glattas married on 28 September 1790 at the age of twenty Charles Aimé Ovide Denis de Cuzieu (1764-1848), Mayor of Saint-Lager (Rhône), Lieutenant Colonel of the Guards of Honour. They had three children: Charles, Blaise and Aimée Jeanne, to whom the present miniature was given.
