A NAPLES (GUISTINIANI) CREAMWARE AMPHORA VASE
EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The globular body with a flared cylindrical neck with two loop handles and a further handle at the back, painted with a view of the erupting Vesuvius seen through the ruins of a large temple with figures in the foreground, within a chequer-pattern cartouche on a pale-brown ground with stencilled dark-brown foliage and anthemion between bands of stylised stiff-leaves, the lower part of the vase and domed foot in dark brown (consolidated crack to lower part of body at back, lower part of base and foot with restoration)
