Château Montrose--Vintage 1970
Saint-Estèphe, 2me cru classé
Slightly corroded capsules. Bin-soiled labels. Levels: six top, three upper-shoulder
Tasting note: The sort of vintage to suit Montrose. Rather like a La Mission, intensely deep and packed with fruit and tannin. 'Magnificent but too heavy for (a City) lunch' in 1980! Massive, Latour-like, rich, mouthfilling. Five recent notes: exciting, rich, glorious flavour but still very tannic. (June 1998) M.B.
