Lot Essay

Miss Höst is recorded at the Meissen factory circa 1900 as an early modernist painter employing high temperature paste-on-paste techniques. See Dr. K. Berling, (ed.), Meissen China an Illustrated History, New York, 1972, pp. 111 and 113, fig. 325 for an example of her work.

The Zwinger palace was built in Dresden by Augustus the Strong, founder of the Meissen porcelain manufactory. It still holds a large number of important Meissen works belonging to the State Art Collection.
