Each with outscrolled sides and serpentine-front seat covered in pale celadon raw silk above a shaped apron with husk-draped rosette medallion on fan-carved cabriole legs, each with painted inventory 1452/1 AND 1452, one rail stamped VI22561, the other with two partial 19th century paper labels, redecorated

Lot Essay

The window seats compare to an example attributed to Thomas Chippendale, sold by the Earl of Harewood, Christie's London, 1 April 1976, lot 40. Chippendale also supplied twelve armchairs and six window seats to Sir Robert Burdett, Bt., for Foremark Hall, Derbyshire (see Chippendale Loan Exhibition, Christie's London, 10, 13-16 November 1978, item 4, and 'Thomas Chippendale and Foremark Hall', Anthony Coleridge, Furniture History, 1997, Vol.XXXIII., pp. 136-141.) Another pair of this basic model was sold 'Un Hotel Particulier du Faubourg Saint-Germain'; Christie's, London, 21-22 November 2007, lot 195 (£11,250).
