A FINE LARGE EARLY MING WHITE-GLAZED ANHUA-DECORATED BOWL
XUANDE SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN DOUBLE-CIRCLES AND OF THE PERIOD (1426-1435)
The bowl is potted with deep rounded sides supported on a short tapering foot, the exterior delicately incised with a band of elongated lotus petals, below a keyfret band below the mouth rim, the interior with anhua decoration depicting a continous composite floral scroll, supported on a tapered foot ring, all covered with a bluish-white glaze, the underside base bearing the reign mark in underglaze-blue

Lot Essay

Compare with two identical bowls of this same size and incised decoration, the first from the National Palace Museum Collection, Taipei, is illustrated in Catalogue of the Special Exhibition of Selected Hsuan-te Imperial Porcelains of the Ming Dynasty, Taipei, 1998, p. 361, no. 153, incised with bands of petal; and the other from the Cunliffe Collection, sold at Bonhams London, 11 November 2002, lot 66. The Cunliffe bowl is decorated with a single band of lotus petals as on the present example. A related Xuande-marked conical bowl with a tianbai, 'sweet white', glaze from the National Palace Museum, Taipei, is also illustrated, op. cit., 1998, p. 367, no. 156.
