Compare with a carved tiered circular box and cover of very similar design dated to the 15th century in the Tokugawa Art Museum illustrated in Karamono, Imported Lacquerwork - Chinese, Korean and Ryukyuan (Okinawa), Nagoya, Japan, 1997, p. 39, no. 51.
