QING DYNASTY,18TH CENTURY
The lobed quatrefoil washer is supported on four ruyi-shaped feet, finely carved to the exterior in high relief and pierced with pine, prunus and bamboo branches, 'three friends of winter', the stone of an attractive white colour with snowy-white inclusions and darker veining to the extremities

Lot Essay

The pine, prunus and bamboo forms the 'Three Friends of Winter': the prunus is one of the few flowers that will bloom in winter; pine is an evergreen and symbolises longevity, and the bamboo is a symbol is of the virtuous gentleman.
