Château Ducru-Beaucaillou--Vintage 1995
Saint-Julien, 2ème cru classé
"After several years of mediocre vintages between 1991 - 1994, Bordeaux experienced textbook conditions in 1995. The weather was very sunny throughout flowering and the growing season, and temperatures were high but not excessive. Enough rain fell in August and September to refresh the vines without dilution, and the harvest began tranquilly on the 18th of September, continuing through the 29th.
The 1995 Ducru is a bit of an anomaly in that the grape blend is very diverse: 65 Cabernet Sauvignon, 26 Merlt, 4 Cabernet Franc, and 5 Petit Verdot. The results are warm, rich, and savory, with the ripe currant and plum fruit character accented by a roast meat note and a hint of earthiness. On the palate the wine is full bodied but supple, with a nicely lingering finish." Dinner at Vin de Garde in Houston, October, 2010
