Lot Essay

Strindberg conceived five allegorical figures representing the continents for the Järntorgsbrunnen fountain in the city of Göteborg, Sweden, in 1927. After the fountain was cast, a second, slightly larger set of these bronzes was made. The present examples are from the extant set. The remaining three figures are in European private collections.
