Large woodcut illustration on title and 259 woodcut illustrations by Hans Weiditz in text (some light browning and staining, some of the woodcut impression faint, one leaf *6 supplied from another copy). Contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, two brass clasps, central compartment stamped in silver with coat-of-arms, the initials "V.E.P." and dated 1562 (rebacked). Provenance "V.E.P." (binding).
Later edition of an important German woodcut book of the Renaissance. The woodcut illustrations are attributed to Hans Weiditz (ca 1495-1536) who produced the cuts probably between 1518-1520. They were first printed in Augsburg in 1532. The preface is by Sebastian Brant.
