A CHARMING ILLUSTRATED LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR OF VANITY FAIR. Thackeray's delicate drawing fills the top half of the sheet. It depicts two young ladies in elaborate fancy dress, one holding a fan. They appear to be listening closely to a Pierrot character with lace ruffle around his neck, slightly bowing, respectfully, his hat in hand. Behind are suggestion of bushes or a garden. His letter--in his usual miniscule hand--reads "This is a sad business, I am engaged on Saturday, and can hardly hope for another day. My mother complains that she has not seen me since I have been here: and I must give her the rest of my dinner times. But I will come to tea one night please...."
