Original green cloth, lettered in gilt and blind, with Emerson's famous greeting in gilt at bottom of spine (worn at ends of spine, fore-corners, and at two small spots on front outer joint, inner hinges weak); cloth folding case. Provenance: L.S. Johnson (a Whitman friend?, signature on pastedown) on inside front cover; Jerry Colonna (bookplate).

Second Edition, with 20 additional poems not in the 1855 edition, one of 1000 copies printed. BAL 21396; Myerson A2.2; Wells & Goldsmith, pp. 5-6: "the book is quite a rarity and is seldom found in good condition."
