Lot Essay

The composition is derived from the picture by Frans Snyders in the Hermitage, Leningrad (inv.no. 607). However, Hella Robels believes the picture in the Hermitage is painted by Snyder's pupil, Paul de Vos (see: H. Robels, Frans Snyders, Munich, 1989, p. 465).
