With its pierced asymmetric rocaille carving, divided plate and climbing leafy branches to the sides, this mirror recalls the series of pier glasses possibly supplied to Sir Thomas Taylour, 1st Earl of Bective, for his new house at Headfort, Co. Meath, built between 1760-70, to designs by George Semple. The Headfort mirrors in turn reflect the influence of Matthias Lock's Six Sconces of 1744 and New Book of Ornaments of 1752 (Glin and Peill, Irish Furniture, London, 2007, p. 263, pls. 232-5).
