Lot Essay

Dr. Bernhard Schnackenburg has confirmed the attribution and dated the painting to circa 1642, drawing comparison with panels in the John G. Johnson Collection, Philadelphia Museum of Art (private correspondence with the vendor, dated 29 November 2008).
