Lot Essay

This pair of chauffeuses with their raised padded backs and rosette-capped tapering fluted legs are typical of the 'Louis XVI style' produced by Maison Jansen in the mid-20th century; a related example by Jansen is illustrated in James Archer Abbott, Jansen Furniture, New York, 2007, p. 104.
