Lot Essay

Luis Salvador Carmona received various commissions for churches in Madrid around the mid-18th Century including the Virgen del Rosario in the Oratorio del Olivar, and the Crucifijio in the Museo Nacional de Escultura, Valladolid. The present lot is comparable with the head of Saint Anthony of Padua in the Iglesia de las Calatravas, illustrated in Escultura Barroca En Espana 1600-1770, by Juan Jose Martin Gonzalez.
