Modest Cuixart was a founding member of the Post-War surrealist 'Dau al Set Group' in collaboration with painters Joan-Josep Tharrats, Antoni Tpies and Joan Pon and poets Joan Brossa, Arnau Puig and Juan Eduardo Cirlot. From his initial surrealism, with a strong presence of matter, he was then attracted by Expressionist figuration and an exploration of colour as form.
