Lot Essay

The authenticity of this work has been kindly confirmed by the artist.
After his studies at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, Madrid, Luis Feito moved to París, from where he became a founding member of the El Paso Group, in Cuenca, along with Antonio Saura, Manuel Millares and Manuel Rivera, among others. In 1983, he moved to New York. From figurative and Cubist compositions he then evolved to Abstraction, where automatism and matter - the iconic mixture of oil and sand- are key, and white, black and ochre become the three main colours of his palette. The beginning of the 1960s marks the first appearance of what would become the most recognizable form in his art: the circle. At this time, red also becomes fundamental. In the 1970s, his art gradually became more geometrical and serene, as expressed in his refined white paintings and lighter compositions of this date.
