Lot Essay

The authenticity of this work has been kindly confirmed by the studio of the artist.

Claudio Bravo moved from his homeland of Chile to Madrid in 1961 where his hyperrealist painting evolved under the influence of the Old Masters such as Velzquez and Zurbarán and Italian Renaissance masters hanging at the Museo del Prado. Still-lives, portraits and figures all show his technical virtuosity - the interplay of natural light, classical compositions and contemplative subjects create an harmonious whole.
